Grand Stage set for 3rd edition of TATA Steel Kolkata 25K 2016

Grand Stage set for 3rd edition of TATA Steel Kolkata 25K 2016

Procam International, promoters of the Tata Steel Kolkata 25K 2016, today announced their preparedness to host the third edition of the TSK 25K at the event Media Centre, West of Red Road, Next to Basketball Court, Near Pratilata Oyedwar Statue.

“Kolkata is blessed with the best weather for TSK 25K run than the other 4 cities. The third edition would of course be bigger and better as each year is better than the previous one and we are getting familiar with the people here. The relationship with the traffic police we have here is an example of how an event should be communicated without any kind of hindrance, said Hugh Jones, Race Director.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Praveen Tripathi, IPS-South Kolkata mentioned that, “The cops are prepared to conduct the run, all I Can assure is we are making a proper and strong police arrangement like last year so that the race could be completed without any hindrance and there is no obstacle around, This year from the police services many IPS officers and other police officers would be running.”

The 25K Run for Indian Elite Athletes will be flagged off from Red Road (Indira Gandhi Sarani) at 6.30 am, followed by the Amateur runners at 6.35 am, Police Cup Run at 6.50 am, Open 10K Run for the Amateur runners at 7.00 am, Champions with Disability & Senior Citizen Run at 8.15 am and Ananda run by 9 am. All the Races start and finish at the Red Road.

In addition to the traffic advisories issued, TSK25K has also tied-up with Google Maps. With this association, on race day 18th Dec Google maps will indicate the roads closures for the event. It will also offer alternate routes for the benefit of the commuters and people can plan their travel accordingly. On Saturday, 17th December, people in vicinity will get notifications that there will be road closures on Sunday morning due to the event. As an added feature, Google will also use its Targeted logic – For eg: If you are landing in Kolkata on Saturday - You'd get a notice that the event is being held on Sunday and help people who are headed into the areas which could be impacted by the road closures.

Dr Sanjukta Dutta, Medical Director, said, “It’s amazing to see the sheer growth of enthusiasm for run in the city of joy and we are delighted to be the medical partner for TSK25K for two consecutive years. For the benefit of the runners , On the event day a large crew of more than 80 medicos from Fortis including Emergency Physicians, Orthopedician, nurses, physiotherapist and emergency medical technicians would be placed across the base camp and 6 medical centers”.

She also added, “We plan to develop the base camp into a mini hospital with critical care area, high dependency area and minor injury treatment area with adequate facility. 7 bike ambulance and 3 fully equipped ACLS (advanced critical life support) ambulance would be placed across the 25 Km route to handle any medical incident swiftly. We are also keeping all the private and public hospitals en route informed to manage any serious patient who may require urgent hospitalization. At the end a small note for the runners... Take adequate rest before the run, have healthy low fibre diet on the night before, keep yourself hydrated, use proper running gear for the race.”

In addition Fortis Hospital Anandapur has come up with a unique charity concept. For every TKR patient from Fortis who takes part in the 25k, the hospital will donate Rs 1000 for every km they run to Kolkata Empowerment Foundation working for eradication of anaemia.

Other facilities for runners on Race Day include, 24 Kingfisher water station with a total 70000 of litres of water, 5 ORSL Restoration station and 5 Nestle Refresh Zones(providing slivers of Oranges and salt) to help the 25K runners and 10K runners remain hydrated during their run. In addition to this there will also be 28 toiletsdeployed along the course.

In order to maintain a clean route, there are 120 dustbins placed at various locations on the road and 150 rag pickers have been hired.

Ensuring that all participants enjoy a safe and secure run will be sufficient resources deployed by the Law & Order and Traffic Police along with private security personnel and volunteers.
