Procam International, promoters of the Tata Steel Kolkata 25K 2015, today announced their preparedness to host the 2nd edition of the TSK 25K at the event Media Centre, West of Red Road, Next to Basketball Court, Near Pratilata Oyedwar Statue.

Muralidhar Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Division, Kolkata, Hugh Jones, Race Director, Dr Sambit Das, Head – Medical Services, Fortis Hospital , Kolkata and Race Medical Director, Rathin Banerjee, Executive Committee Member, West Bengal Athletic Association along with Vivek Singh, Jt. MD, Procam International announced the various measures and facilities put into place to facilitate the smooth conduct of the event and give the participants a satisfying running experience.

The 25K Run for Indian Elite Athletes will be flagged off from Red Road (Indira Gandhi Sarani) at 6.30 am, followed by the Amateur runners at 6.35 am, Open 10K Run for the Amateur runners at 7.00 am, Champions with Disability & Senior Citizen Run at 8.15 am and Ananda run by 9 am. All the Races start and finish at the Red Road.

Murlidhar Sharma (Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Division) – “This is the second time the Kolkata Police has been associated with this event. We have learnt a lot from last year and have taken measures to ensure improvements are done. We have chalked out strategies for daily commuters for their convenience and we are issuing traffic advisories through various publications and via facebook and other social media platforms. In addition to this, as part of our security arrangements there will be surveillance across the route with CCTV cameras, patrol bikes along with female and male police officers.

Hugh Jones, Race Director– ‘’I am extremely happy to be here in Kolkata for the second edition of the event. The response from the participants have been over-whelming and we want to give the runners the best running experience. This time around there are slight changes in the route, which will be useful for the runners. The climate in Kolkata is also good for running and we hope the athletes clock their best time.

The occasion was also used to announce Fortis Hospital as the event’s Medical Partner and the initiatives instituted by them for the event.

Dr Sambit Das, Head – Medical Services , Fortis Hospital , Kolkata and the Medical Director of TSK 25K says,” a good run is refreshing like a fresh cup of raw tea- cleanses our Body Mind and Soul. TSK 25K run pushes the envelope of human endurance stamina and more importantly, the will power to succeed. If it doesn’t CHALLANGE you, it doesn’t change you, Fortis Hospital has been at the fore front of promoting preventive healthcare. Our endeavour to encouraging Kolkatian to run is a way to reach out to the mass on staying fit”.

On the medical facilities available to the participants, revealed that there would be 6 Medical Stations (including one Base Camp), 3 ambulances and 120 Medical personnel on duty.

According to Rathin Banerjee, Executive Committee Member, West Bengal Athletic Association, 100 officials from the West Bengal Amateur Athletic Association (WBAA) will be posted at the start and finish of the 25K and 10K along the route to take care of the technical conduct of the event.

Other facilities for runners on Race Day include, 28 toilets along the course, 45 thousand liters of water would be distributed on race day through 15 water stations, while there would be 5 Energy Drink Stations and 5 Orange Stations (providing slivers of Oranges and salt) to help the 25K runners and 10K runners remain hydrated during their run.

In order to maintain a clean route, there are 120 dustbins placed at various locations on the road and 150 rag pickers have been hired.

Ensuring that all participants enjoy a safe and secure run will be 1950 Law & Orderand Traffic Police deployed on Race Day, besides 1000 private security personnel and 500 volunteers.
